A focused introduction to creativity, identity and the journey into adulthood. OWLKEYME’s 3-hour taster session gives young people a powerful introduction to our unique rites-of-passage program, combining creative expression, practical skill-building and meaningful conversations around what it means to grow, find your voice and step into adulthood. Designed for young people aged 14–16, the session brings together the energy of five creative disciplines Hip Hop Dance, Rapping, Singing, Krump and Barbering each connected to a theme that speaks to the journey from adolescence into adulthood. Rather than simply watching or being entertained, participants are invited to step in, have a go and express themselves. Through a series of dynamic creative experiences, they begin to explore identity, confidence, vulnerability, struggle, self-presentation and community. The Five Creative Threads Hip Hop Dance - Identity & Presence Rapping - Voice & Leadership Singing - Vulnerability & Expression Krump - Struggle & Release Barbering - Self-Presentation & Community A Taste of the Journey Over three hours, participants move through a carefully structured sequence of creative activities designed to build energy, connection and confidence. They are introduced to the five disciplines and the deeper themes behind them, while experiencing the supportive group environment that sits at the heart of OWLKEYME. The session culminates in a shared moment of expression and reflection, giving young people an opportunity to recognise something they have discovered, challenged or expressed during the session. The taster is not designed to deliver the full rites-of-passage experience in miniature. Instead, it offers a genuine taste of what makes OWLKEYME different creative practice with purpose, challenge with support, and a space where young people can begin to see themselves differently. Why It Matters For many young people, there are few clear opportunities to pause, reflect and acknowledge the transition from childhood towards adulthood. OWLKEYME creates that space. By connecting creativity with meaningful themes around identity, voice, vulnerability, struggle, self-presentation and community, the taster session gives young people an opportunity to be seen, heard and challenged through doing. It can stand alone as a high-energy, meaningful youth engagement session, or act as an introduction to the deeper two-day OWLKEYME rites-of-passage program.
